HPV Vaccine: Medical Cost versus Benefit Modeling

There are a few other things I would like to say about Gardasil, including the encounter I had at a meeting with the drug rep pushing Gardisil. But I will shut up for now.

Please *do follow up with a later post, Alicia, I would love to hear what you have to say.

NJ has bills being considered in both the Senate and Assembly making the HPV vaccine mandatory for school admission for girls grades 7-12 beginning 2007-8.

Aside from side effects, lack of long-term studies, link between Merck and the bills being introduced around the country, I'm also very disturbed that the government would mandate a vaccine for a disease that is only sexually transmitted (as opposed to communicable diseases that are airborne).

I live in Texas. One of the things that has everyone here up in arms is the dictatorial nature of the order. No one - not the voters, not the legislature, not the state board of heath - nobody had any comment on this. Governor Perry has come to represent what broken political promises mean these days. A great many of us held our noses and voted for him, only to be betrayed less than 6 months after he got reelected. As one local radio talkshow host says, Perry's "gone over to the dark side."

Now, here's the real hitch that matters to you folks in Wisconsin and New Jersey and everywhere else...Perry has ambitions. It seems he wants to run for W's current job in 2012 or 2016.

Trust me when I say that you DO NOT want this macro-moron as president. I could give you lots of other reasons why.

And when Mark runs out of breath, I'll take over ... we haven't even gone into his lame-brain scheme to sell the state lottery and use the money to "cure cancer in 10 years." Sheez!
