The man in black

From the NY Times.Johnny Cash, Country Music's Bare-Bones Realist, Dies at 71
Even when I was a child and thought that country music was 'lame', I admired Johnny Cash. Back in February, I posted the lyrics to a Johnny Cash song that I could not get out of my head. I pray that Mr. Cash is now where he can:
Hear the trumpets, hear the pipers, one hundred million angels singing.
Multitudes are marching to the big kettle drum.
Voices calling, voices crying, some are born and some are dying.
It's Alpha and Omega's Kingdom come.

I've never been won over by country music, but I recognize a pioneer and a legend when I see one, and Johnny Cash fits that description to a tee. While his music isn't necessarily my taste, I respect it for its quality and the influence it had on others that followed him in various forms of music. He always seemed like a tough as nails rebel to me, and that is a characteristic that I usually admire in people. I later realized that he suffered a great deal in his life behind that gruff exterior. God rest his soul.
