Marriage woes

I had heard rumours of this news but was reluctant to post anything until I could find reliable information. This seems to be reliable. Please pray for sanity to return to a man who has been a beacon for Catholic laymen in the USA.

From RC: the sad news of the death of Johnette Benkovic's son in an accident. He had just returned from Iraq. And then this news of a marriage under attack, from Alicia and Elena. Mrs Macfarlane writes more on her... Read More

This doesn't sound right, and not just because of how he consistently upholds the Church's teachings on marriage.

Isn't Bud McFarlane's wife's name Bai? She's on the tapes that they distribute. The woman in the article is named "Marie."

I thought Bai was a nickname, thought her real name was Christine, but I don't know if she goes by her middle name or something. I figured Alicia might be sure these were the same people before she posted the link since she hadn't wanted to spread rumors. I also notice there is no info about his family anymore on the "About Bud" section of Catholicity, whereas I thought there had been.

Very sad if this is not some big mixup.

Very strange, too. You're right about the "About Bud" section - there was a whole section about his family that's not there now.

St. Raphael and St. Joseph, pray for them!

Actually, apparently her real name is Marie Christine.

I am still astonished at this news.

Someone over at the freep did a search on the public records, and it is indeed "that" Bai and Bud.

I agree that divorce is not in the best interests of society or the family (generally, or the one involved here).

But I'm missing something. The only Bud McFarlane I know is President Reagan's former National Security Advisor and Iran-Contra figure. Is this the same guy? He'd be well up in his 70s by now, I think. And the fact that the article does not mention that connection makes me think this is not the same guy.

Wow I can't even believe this. How ineffably sad. Haven't been this surprised since the Amy Grant divorce. (Remember the stat that only 4% of NFP practicing couples get divorced? It's beyond the pale to think the MacFarlane's, of all people, would get divorced but it goes to show that the flesh is weak and we can put our trust in no man.)

I checked and Bai has 4 sons and has been married for 13 years, so it looks like "Bai" is Marie. Here they are in happier days.

How terribly tragic. The article linked here ("happier days") is only a year old. What could go so wrong in one year?

You know, he says that they say the rosary every night as a family... I can't imagine any family saying the rosary (not forced to) every night ending up divorcing - how could you? The rosary is so humbling when you contemplate it.

I hope and pray that this family stays together... it is awful when any family breaks up, particularly one with such small kids.

I really hope Bud reconsiders. I don't know what's going on in their marriage, but besides tearing his family apart, he's going to lose all credibility -- and so is CatholiCity -- if he goes through with this divorce. I know I will certainly not order another one of their tapes or books until this is resolved.

Marie is Bai. Bai is her nickname. I've been e-mailing her. She asked me to post a letter written by her sister on my blog, and I obliged. You can read it here.

Let us remember to pray for Bud and Bai McFarlane and for their sons. Blessed Mary - we ask for your intercessions on their behalf.

Remember oh Most Precious Virgin Mary that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help or sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgins of Virgins, my Mother, to you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate! Despise not my petitions but in your mercy hear and answer me.

Praying for the McFarlane Family.

Tom, Bud of Catholicity is Bud, Jr. His father is Bud, Sr. He might be whom you are thinking of, but anyone please correct me if I am wrong.

I have been divorced for 25 years now under the same type of law and circumstance. The Church never defended against no-fault legislation and my family has suffered great harm because of my former husband's retention of his medical practice (my family and I put him through undergraduate and medical school) and one half the assets, while I had to try to start a career at age 45.

I have ended up with less than good relationships with my children and grandchildren and it has been a true crucifixion.

I could go on and on, but my prayers and sympathy are with all who suffer from this unjust situtation.
